I was just searching for some appropriate blog content and platform advice to provide for students on the Professional Media Practice module at Birmingham City University and who should my search turn up? None other than Mr Bradshaw himself. Brilliant, thanks Paul.

[...] It’s a particularly pertinent question for those of us trying to teach online journalism at university. I’ve been toying with the idea of introducing first years to Posterous, rather than Blogger, for example, because you can use Posterous as a conduit for publishing content to a whole range of other platforms – from YouTube to Twitter, Facebook to Blogger. Not only that, but you can post via email, from a phone, say, and you can easily set up group posting. [NB: Thanks to Paul Bradshaw’s very useful blogging tools review.] [...]

Great overview on blog platforms and use cases. For my personal blog and my company's blog I'm using Tumblr.

For the use case "Blogs for events" and aggregators, a couple of new options are available. Curation tools like scoop.it or Storify make it easy to create a page/embed on a single topic, using content scattered across the web. My company, Bundlr (http://gobundlr.com) is working on the same goal: make it easy for information professionals to manually aggregate the best content on a topic.

You've got some excellent advice and deep experience in blogging, which I'm sure people will find helpful. One caution about Posterous: it's too easy to get into a "auto-post" mode on Posterous without having any real interaction. Robo-posts turn people off and miss out on the engagement factor.
