Not surprising – I also thought that not registering a domain for a Sunday Sun newspaper before now was highly unlikely – lots of domain names registered defensively.

Good point – that was a claim in Mediashift, which I should have guessed would be Anglo-American-centric. The Times of India sells 13.3m.

Worth pointing out that News Int has owned Sunday.co.uk since 1997 – whois.domaintools.com/sunday.co.uk

Which currently redirects to the NotW site.

is the NOTW really ‘the world’s biggest selling English language newspaper’? Surely some of the English-language Indian newspapers like The Times of India sell more copies — or is the measurement in terms of money?
