I'll look forward to hearing how this goes. I've always had a knee-jerk reaction to students writing about students, possibly based on the 'oh look, another story about milk being nicked from fridges in hall by sneaky flatmates!' syndrome

The chances are that the people turning these sorts of stories in would also come back with weak stories if they were let loose in the wider community!

But then over the years the students who have managed to persuade me that a student-focussed project would work have done well - I know of several people who've been pretty successful after they left making a go professionally of the idea spawned at university.

Many universities are the size of a small town. There should be an endless supply of strong stories ...

I look forward to reading about the results of this one. You've mentioned your loathing of such lazy journalism before, hopefully your students will prove that it can be done effectively.
