Diving into multimedia journalism is a dangerous game. Like any content, if you are going to provide it on a publishers website, you need to have good standards of production, otherwise this will directly reflect on that brand.

Producing good quality multimedia content requires the right tools, the right skills (and realistic levels of staff/man hours!) and the right understanding of how and why things work online.

Personally speaking newspapers must still act as gatekeepers for news in their own publications on- and off-line.

User generated content and comment should be welcomed, and feed and influence the 21st century multimedia news process, but experienced journalists and editors, particularly within local news centres are in the best position to judge local news values.
